Leave a Legacy That Saves Lives: Planned Giving to Retired Police Canine Foundation

At the Retired Police Canine Foundation (RPK9), we believe that the bravest heroes deserve care and dignity in their retirement. For decades, police K9s have risked their lives alongside their human partners—detecting explosives, tracking suspects, locating missing persons, and keeping our communities safe. When their service ends, many of these loyal dogs face uncertain futures due to costly medical needs, limited pensions, or lack of lifelong support.

Your planned gift can change that—forever.

By including the Retired Police Canine Foundation in your will or living trust (known as a bequest), you create a powerful, lasting impact without affecting your current finances. Your generosity will provide lifelong veterinary care, food, medications, and safe retirement homes for these heroic K9s long after you’re gone.

Why Include a Bequest to RPCF in Your Will?

  • It costs you nothing today – You retain full control and use of your assets during your lifetime.
  • Flexibility – You can modify or revoke the bequest at any time if your circumstances change.
  • Significant impact – Even a small percentage of your estate can fund veterinary care for dozens of retired K9s over the years.
  • Tax advantages – Bequests to 501(c)(3) charities like RPCF are fully deductible from your taxable estate, potentially reducing or eliminating federal estate taxes for your heirs.
  • Honor a hero – Many donors choose to name the gift in memory of a beloved pet, a fallen officer, or a specific K9 they admire.
  • Join a special circle – Members of our Legacy K9 Society are recognized (with your permission) during your lifetime and ensure your values live on.

Sample Bequest Language (for your attorney)

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Retired Police Canine Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Spring Hill, FL, Tax ID 45-4474058, [ ] the sum of $__________, or [ ] _____ percent (%) of the residue of my estate, or [ ] [specific asset, such as securities or real estate] to be used for its general charitable purposes in support of retired law-enforcement K9s.”

Gifts of Real Estate or Land

Many supporters own property they no longer need—vacant land, a second home, rental property, or commercial real estate. Donating real estate to RPCF can be one of the most tax-efficient ways to support our mission:

  • Avoid capital-gains tax on appreciated property
  • Receive an immediate charitable income-tax deduction (often at full fair-market value)
  • Remove the property from your taxable estate
  • In some cases, establish a life-income arrangement (such as a charitable remainder trust) that pays you income for life before the property passes to RPCF

We accept outright gifts of real estate anywhere in the United States (subject to review). The proceeds from the sale of donated property fund lifetime care for retired police dogs and help us expand our programs nationwide.
